Barfield DPS500 Digital Pitot-Static (Air Data) Test Set
The Barfield DPS500 is a selfcontained transportable fully automated air data test set for testing and calibrating aircraft pitot-static systems and instruments. It generates and holds precise altitude, airspeed, and vertical speed values so technicians can check aircraft systems and certify components on the flightline or in a repair shop. Its accuracy and stability qualify it for certifying aircraft for Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum (RVSM) operation.
Key Features Barfield DPS500
- Fully automatic control: automatically generates and maintains input altitude airspeed or vertical speed values with no manual valve or regulator sequencing
- Dual-channel pressure controller: separate static and pitot channels for independent control of altitude and airspeed
- Integrated pressure/vacuum pump: a complete unit with a remote hand terminal for working at the aircraft
- RVSM-level accuracy: altitude accuracy of ±3 ft at -1,800 ft, ±4 ft at 10,000 ft, ±5 ft at 20,000 ft, ±7 ft at 30,000 ft, ±10 ft at 40,000 ft, ±16 ft at 50,000 ft, and ±25 ft at 60,000 ft
- Airspeed capability: measures up to 850 knots with a special high-range option available
- Optional extended altitude: a special military option reaches 100,000 ft
- Aircraft limit database: stores limit data for up to 30 different aircraft
- GO TO GROUND function: safely and automatically depressurizes both systems to ambient pressure
- Device-under-test protection: built in safeguards help protect the aircraft instruments during testing
- Printing and data output: compatible with Centronics parallel printers (80 or 132 column) to print tabulated test data
- PC programmable: control and automate tests over RS-232 with the optional Test Program Manager software including programmed routines such as FAR 43 Appendix E, FAR 91.411, and RVSM tests
- Optional accessories: Line Switching Unit, controlled through the DPS500, for multi line testing
- Transportable: about 77 lb (35 kg), measuring roughly 13 × 30 × 17.5 inches
Typical Applications
- Flightline pitot-static system leak and accuracy checks
- RVSM, FAR 43 Appendix E, and FAR 91.411 certification testing
- Calibration of altimeters, airspeed indicators, vertical speed indicators, and air data computers
- Use as a transfer standard in repair stations and calibration labs
- Troubleshooting air data components on the aircraft
Why Choose It
The Barfield DPS500 automates the testing process which cuts operator error and aircraft downtime while its accuracy meets the demands of RVSM certification. A rugged transportable design means the same instrument can serve the hangar, the flightline, or the repair bench.
